Week 3 Paddles and Fins

Oh man today I used my new hand paddles and zoomer fins with part of my swim workout, 1 word AWESOME! I wish I had those a couple weeks ago. They allowed me to swim more without tiring early. Tomorrow I am going to get my bike fitting hopefully it will reduce my reach a tad. Right now its a bit far for my short torso. Then I get to try it out at the Peloton to cycle with some of my team. Fun stuff!

Got my bike!

Woohoo! Got my bike on Monday a 2010 Orbea Aqua Dama T23! I also got my clipless pedals and shoes, helmet, water bottle, couple of water bottle holders mounted, a new pump that fits the special valve. Recently I ordered some swim training supplies fins and hand paddles to help build stronger swim muscles. Yesterday I found an awesome deal for my bike computer I decided on a Cats Eye Strada Double Wireless it tracks everything I need specifically cadence. For the heck of a deal I got I could only get it in white I would've preferred black but I couldn't beat that price oh well it will match my shoes. Tuesday I joined a triathlon club called Trifort very nice people I did a bike workout with them on tuesday night and they made me feel very welcome. Very nice group of people. This weekend I will be sending in my application for USAT (USA triathlon)My workouts have been going well. I had to shift my days around this week due to tuesday night cycling workouts with my club.  This weekend I will probably register for my event.

Tired today.

Today I awoke early to workout since we were having lunch with friends at 1p and the gym closes at 6p on Sundays. I did my bike workout then I did some lifting and swam for a little bit just light swimming because I was pretty tuckered. It's nice to get that exerted feeling after a great workout where you go home and just lifting the carton of OJ to pour you can feel that your muscles are fatigued. I know that they are on their way to getting stronger and helping me swim, bike, and run better!
I am so excited about possibly getting my bike tomorrow I can't think of anything else. I would guess I am going to have a hard time sleeping tonight. Tomorrow is an off day my back muscles feel pretty tight so I keep stretching. I might go to the pool tomorrow not swim laps but rather just get moving so my muscles loosen up.

Thursday swim, Friday off, Saturday run

Thursday I had my 1st official swim workout. I have been doing some laps and some drills to work on my form but this was an actual workout just laps, not many only 200m doing 25m with 15sec rest between. 15sec is not a very long time for a just ok swimmer. I felt exerted after this workout. LOVE IT!
Friday was my off day I took this opportunity to sleep a lot to rid this cold. I am down to about a mild cough. Thumbs up! Breathing treatments are my friends I love my albuterol.
Saturday was a good day. I went back to a shop to look at swim stuff but got talking about bikes again, I test rode the Felt zw95. It was very nice I liked it a lot. Then we got talking about the Orbea's and after talking for a bit to the owner he said if I was interested he is going to bring in his daughters 2010 bike that she is not using anymore that happens to be just my size for me to ride and buy at used price. This guy is awesome he really knows his stuff I have no doubt that he doesn't take good care of it so I really don't mind buying a 1yo bike from him. I'm so excited I wish it was Monday so I can take it out for a spin! The components are a little down grade than the Canondale I was possibly looking at but I am ok with that, the price is awesome and I can upgrade the components later after I get my feet wet. All in all its a great bike with great reviews. It is a 2010 Orbea Aqua Dama T23. Black and sliver (Awesomeness!) with light blue handlebar tape. He might throw in some pedals to so that would save me even more money! I'm diggin this deal.
On Saturday I also ordered some zoomer swim fins and hand paddles to enhance my swim workouts. And I got my race belt that had a built in slot for my inhaler.  Saturday was a good day!
Tomorrow's workout is bike.

Better today than last time

I awoke today still not feeling really great and I really had to mentally focus on getting up and going to workout because I really didn't want to. So I dragged my butt to the gym to do my scheduled workout of bike 5 miles. 5min warm up and then tried to keep my heart rate at the low end of my aerobic level for the bulk of my workout then a small cool down to get my heart rate back to normal. Then I headed over to the weight machines and I did my light lifting since I didn't do it yesterday. 2 sets of 15 reps of 14 different exercises using light weights so not to bulk up but just work on muscle endurance.  Then I was feeling the need to work on my swimming form so I hopped in the pool and swam for about 15-20mins. Swimming went better today than it did on Monday tried to swim slower and really still focus on the bilateral breathing. Later tonight I'm going to run with my friend Jill. Sounds like I did a lot today when I write it down but it doesn't seem so doing it. Tomorrow is my actual 1st swim workout we will see how that goes!

Under the weather

Today I am not feeling well hopefully it will stay mild as a cold but even as a cold it is making me miserable. But I still did my workout! Running was today. I was going to go do some light lifting but felt it would benefit me more to come home and do a breathing treatment. Today I also went to Summit City Bikes to look at some bikes and let me tell you my sales guy was wonderful. He spoke my language and when I asked something that I didn't really understand he took time to help me understand it. He made some valid points and great information on my bike choices so I will probably be upgrading my bike selection to a little bit better not much more money but a lot better quality and the option for future upgrades which the others I had in mind couldn't do. Later this week or weekend when it is not raining out I will probably go and test some out and start narrowing down what bike I want to get. Tomorrow's workout is bike

Start Training...

So I have decided to do my first Sprint Triathlon. My goal is to cross the finish line at Fox Island on June 19th http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=131198106949035. I am going to try not to worry about my time to much because I'm pretty sure it is going to bad, I just want to cross the finish line standing up! I joined a gym to lift and it also has a small pool (very small only about 10m or 11m) so I can work on drills and stuff but I think I will have to purchase a swim pass for a larger pool once I feel my form has improved. For now I am following the 10 week sprint tri training program from http://www.trinewbies.com. I have started to buy all my gear thanks to my father who has helped me with the initial financial kick to the wallet. I have bought my goggles and found a great deal on a tri suit. I have narrowed down my bike selection and plan on purchasing some cycling bibs in the next couple of days. Tried some on today and it totally converted me to bibs as opposed to cycling shorts. So much more comfortable.

Training:
Yesterday I did some light lifting. Today I worked on my weakest discipline...swimming. All I can say is I am sore... oh and I really need to learn how to breath to the side instead of lifting my head forward. My goggles worked wonderful no fogging at all! I've washed my suit many times and yet I still had some sand still in my suit from when we were in the ocean while in Delaware.

Tomorrow is running.
